I think that we should make the best of where we live and we all should be able to come back home to a place that is welcoming and represents who we are
At one stage in my life I was renting apartments and when they became run down I would check the market for somewhere else that looked new, refreshed and would move home to make a new start. This is great for a while but at some point you will want to settle down and build up the style in your own home and invest in your own future instead of someone else`s building which is exactly what happened to me. Once I had the money to get a mortgage for my own place I began to experiment with different ideas in different rooms in the house and then it became and addiction. I began to educate myself on the subject to CIDA requirements and took my exams under Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ). I then started to slowly bring in clients based on the work on my own home!
A comfort zone is a beautiful place but nothing ever grows there
This was a massive step for me taking on clients, my confidence was low because I was so new to the role and I was well out of my comfort zone often speaking to people in much more affluent areas than myself and if I am totally honest some of them were completely arrogant. I quickly began to grow confidence in all areas and became adept at managing projects and budgets which ultimately lead to making more money for myself in return for my services.
A design is a balance between form & function ….. it takes two
